Natural Looking Dental Implants in Irvine, CA

To achieve a natural-looking smile, you must look for a dental implant provider that uses high-end technology and the best materials. It would be best if you had a dental implant that is natural looking and barely noticeable so you can freely chew and talk as usual.

A dental implant that looks like a natural tooth is what you should get. Dental implants are used to secure fixtures like crowns, bridges, and dentures. However, in some cases, you can also get an implant as a replacement for a missing tooth.

The good news is that dental implants are barely noticeable and look very natural. With proper oral hygiene, care, and maintenance, you can keep your dental implant for the rest of your life.

Dental Implant Surgery at Serene Dental Center

Dental implant surgery involves implanting a titanium post into the jawbone. Once it heals, the post is used to secure a crown or a false tooth. This process can take up to 6 months to heal, so don’t rush things. During the healing period, you must take good care of your teeth and gums.

You must keep your mouth clean and avoid any food that can cause plaque and tartar formation. You should visit your dentist at least once a month to get your teeth and gums inspected. If you have gum disease, this is the best time to get it treated before it progresses to an advanced stage.

If you follow these instructions, your gums will remain healthy and less likely to get gum diseases.

Irvine Dental Implant Technology: Sirona Orthophos XG 3D Imaging System

Sirona Orthophos is the first comprehensive and accurate 3D imaging system for measuring bone thickness and bone density for implant placement. We use digital radiography to capture high-quality images of the jawbone and surrounding structures. It's essential to determine how much bone would be needed to support your implants before placing them. If there is not enough bone, it will likely create a weak or compromised implant, leading to failure.

The Orthophos system uses various imaging technologies, including digital radiography, computer tomography (CT), and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). The system includes more than six different software applications and works with all leading 3D navigators.

Dentists and oral surgeons can use these programs to create three-dimensional jawbone models, assess bone and soft tissue structures, and create surgical guides for optimal implant placement.

The data collected by the Orthophos system can be utilized to generate surgical guides for comprehensive operation planning. These guides shorten the total surgical duration and improve implant placement precision.

Why a Dental Implant May Be Necessary:

  • Replacing a missing tooth or teeth
  • Jaw joint or bite problems following teeth shifting to fill the space
  • Desire to improve chewing ability
  • To support dentures

The Process of Installing Dental Implants:

A dental implant is a false tooth that mimics a real one by being anchored to your jaw bone and seen at your natural gum line. The implant is surgically attached by one of our certified dentists to the jaw bone, creating a natural looking, undetectable replacement for the missing tooth. For Irvine patients who have more than one tooth missing in the same area, several implants may be required.

Dental implants are also used to secure removable dentures, in the event that you have no remaining natural teeth. Note: It can take about six months for the surgical implant to heal before final installation of the artificial tooth.

Dental implants are artificial solution with the closest resemblance to your natural teeth. Strong, durable, and virtually undetectable, dental implants effectively fill gaps left by missing teeth. Implants improve chewing ability and prevent jaw joint problems. They also preserve the bone levels around adjacent teeth which helps their longevity as well. While the immediate cost is typically more expensive than the alternative procedures, their success rate has shown that they are more cost-effective in the long term.

Dental Implant Surgery at Serene Dental Center

Dental implants are a long-term solution to missing teeth, teeth that have to be removed, or an alternative to dentures. Implants are placed surgically into your jawbone and are visually indistinguishable from real teeth. Unlike dental implant alternatives such as bridges or dentures, they should not affect other healthy teeth or lead to bone loss.

When properly cared for, your dental implants can last a lifetime.

While getting dental implants is a surgical procedure, and should be performed by a trained dental surgeon, our staff at Serene Dental Center will ensure that you receive the best care. The idea of dental surgery can be intimidating; with our specialized training, we will make sure you are fully informed of the steps of the procedure and answer any questions you may have.

Post-operative care is very important, and our doctors recommend following a soft foods-only diet for up to two weeks while the implant site heals. Plentiful liquids as well as foods like applesauce, broth, soup, and mashed potatoes are recommended. Pureed foods or foods that are chopped into small pieces are also OK to eat. Chewy, crunchy or spicy foods should be avoided, as should anything that can cause trauma to the healing gums.

Irvine Dental Implant Technology

Sirona Orthophos XG 3D Imaging System

The Sirona Orthophos XG 3D imaging system is a type of digital radiography that helps our team plan out implant placement for faster, easier and more precise treatment. We use this imaging technology to capture important information that helps us determine where and how to place implants.

With just a few clicks of a mouse, we can use the Orthophos implant software technology to obtain three-dimensional digital images of the entire mouth, including areas not visible to the human eye, such as the structures that support the teeth, tissues and nerves. The images are critical to helping us assess the structure and density of the jawbone where the implants will be placed.

Orthophos digital images take less than a minute to capture, and significantly less radiation enters the body than with traditional X-rays. Patients are comfortably seated as the digital images are being taken.

As soon as our dentists have the digital images, they can create a three-dimensional model of the mouth and face, provide an immediate diagnosis and start to plan implant treatment. The images are easily shared with other specialists, such as oral surgeons, periodontists and physicians that may need to be looped in during the treatment planning stage.

The information captured by the Orthophos system can then be used to create surgical guides to plan the procedure from start to finish. These guides reduce overall surgery time and enhance accuracy during the placement of the implants.

The Orthophos imaging system gives our dentists and our patients peace of mind and confidence. We have found that the proper planning makes for more affordable dental implants and a safer and less invasive surgery.

Dental Implant FAQ:

What Is the Recovery Like?

As with any type of dental surgery, the recovery process is different for everyone. Irvine patients who have undergone a dental implant placement, can immediately experience swelling of the facial & gum area, as well as bruising. However, these symptoms are normal and should subside within a few days. Any pain can be alleviated with oral medication.

You probably won’t need to take more than a day or two off from work. You will likely be able to return to most of your regular responsibilities a day or two after implant placement. Depending on the type of anesthesia administered during the procedure, you may be able to drive yourself home after your procedure.

Can I Replace Dentures with Implants?

Replacing loose, bulky dentures with dental implants is certainly a possibility. It is important to evaluate the quantity and quality of your jawbone, which is a critical factor to retaining the dental implant posts. If you are thinking about having dental implants placed, X-rays and testing may be ordered to evaluate your jawbone and ensure its integrity. Unfortunately, after years of wearing dentures, your jawbone can start to shrink and may no longer be able to sustain the implant’s installment. If this happens, bone grafting techniques and materials may be used to build up the bone before proceeding with implant placement.

When replacing dentures with implants, you have several options. Depending on how many teeth need to be replaced, you could opt for implant-supported crowns and/or bridges. Or, if you are interested in full-mouth dental implants, an implant-supported denture prosthesis may be the most sensible solution. With implant-supported or implant-retained dentures, four to six implant posts are surgically placed throughout the jaw and the denture then clips to the tops of the posts, where it sits securely.

What Are the Differences between Bridges and Dental Implants?

One of the main differences between bridges and dental implants is that bridges rely on the teeth adjacent to the gap for support. Those teeth must be prepped by removing some of their enamel in order to install the dental bridge. On the other hand, because dental implants are a standalone tooth replacement, they do not require the support or preparation of the neighboring teeth.

Another difference is that, due to the way bridges are constructed, they are more difficult to keep clean. Traditional bridges are composed of three crowns bonded together; the fact that they are bonded together makes it challenging to brush and floss around the bridge. Without diligent home care and professional cleanings, decay can develop around the bridges, causing problems. Dental implants can be brushed and flossed like a natural tooth and do not require any other special maintenance.

Finally, unlike implants, bridges are not designed to be as long-lasting. Bridges tend to wear down and require replacement every 10 years on average. Implants can last indefinitely with the proper care.

Are there Alternatives to Dental Implants?

In terms of effectiveness, dentures pale in comparison to dental implants. However, if you have a fixed budget, you may opt for dentures or a dental bridge as a cheaper solution.
