The beginning of the year is a great time to review the health habits that are benefitting you and the areas that could be improved. As you evaluate what works well and what could be tweaked, don’t forget about your oral health!

In this post, Drs. Ali and Shery Mansouri of Serene Dental Center suggest a few New Year’s resolutions you can make to improve the health and beauty of your smile.

See Your Dental Team Twice for Cleanings

Twice-yearly cleanings and exams are critical to preventing dental disease and catching problems in their earliest stages, when they are more easily treated. Seeing our team regularly is also a great opportunity to discuss cosmetic treatments to beautify your smile.

If you don’t have a cleaning appointment already scheduled, call or email us today to book your visit!

Floss Every Day

In addition to brushing your teeth twice a day, it is imperative to floss once daily, too. Flossing dislodges tiny piece of food and bacteria that can get trapped in between the teeth and along the gumline. If you have any questions, ask one of our dental hygienists to demonstrate proper flossing technique at your next visit.

Protect Your Teeth from the Forces of Grinding or Clenching

If you frequently wake up with migraines or experience jaw pain or tenderness, you could unknowingly be clenching or grinding your teeth at night. Over time, chronic clenching or grinding wears down tooth enamel and can cause problems with the TMJ. Ask our team about having a custom mouth guard fitted to protect your teeth from the forces of grinding or clenching.

Reduce the Amount of Sugar You Consume

The link between sugary foods and tooth decay is well-documented. Resolve to cut back on sugary foods to reduce your risk of cavities and other problems. Swap out sugary foods in favor of teeth-friendly daily products and fibrous vegetables.

Pursue Your Desired Cosmetic Treatment

If you have spent a long time feeling bothered by a chipped tooth, discolored teeth or otherwise unattractive smile, make 2018 the year you finally pursue cosmetic dentistry treatment! Don’t put off your perfect smile any longer. Let our team explain how we can make over your smile and boost your confidence.
